Synastry & Composite Charts

Mapping the relationship as a living entity

When evaluating a relationship, professional astrologers use two distinct methodologies. StellarTies applies both to map your partnership from every angle.

What is synastry?

Synastry involves placing two individual birth charts side by side to analyze how they interact. It reveals the immediate chemistry, attraction, and potential triggers between two people by mapping how Person A's planets form aspects with Person B's planets.

When the StellarTies dashboard shows an Overall Harmony score, it is synthesizing these exact cross-chart interactions — weighted by orb tightness, planet importance, and generational context. See the full methodology in our Synastry Analysis deep dive.

The composite chart: the Third Entity

While synastry shows how you affect each other, the Composite Chart reveals the relationship as a distinct, living organism. It is calculated by finding the mathematical midpoints between corresponding planets in both charts, creating a singular new chart.

The Composite Chart has its own Sun, Moon, Venus, and Ascendant. It highlights the shared destiny, the collective challenges, and the overall purpose of the union. This is the true "Third Entity" — the relationship itself as something greater than the sum of its parts.

Transits to the Third Entity

The composite chart isn't static. Current planetary movements — called transits — continually interact with composite chart points, creating the relationship's own weather.

When Saturn crosses the composite Sun, it tests the relationship's shared sense of purpose. When Jupiter trines the composite Venus, it opens a window for deepened romance and joy. StellarTies tracks these monthly, merging them with personal transits into a unified forecast.

From data to connection bids

By combining precision astronomical data with composite and synastry methodologies, StellarTies delivers specific, actionable Connection Bids — curated suggestions drawn from a library of templates, mapped to the week's active transits. The concept of "bids for connection" originates from clinical relationship research, which found that how partners respond to small bids is one of the strongest predictors of relationship success.

A Venus trine might generate "Plan a low-key date — effortless harmony is peaking right now." A Saturn square might suggest "Revisit a boundary that needs clarifying." These aren't generic tips — they're timed to your unique charts.

Synastry and composite chart analysis are tools for relationship awareness and self-reflection, not predictive instruments. They should not replace professional counseling.
