Transit Astrology Explained
How planetary movements affect your relationships right now
Your birth chart is fixed — it captures a single moment in time. But the planets keep moving. Transit astrology is the study of how those ongoing planetary movements interact with your birth chart, creating periods of intensity, ease, growth, and challenge.
What are transits?
Transits are the engine of astrological timing. While your birth chart describes your potential, transits describe when specific themes are activated. They're the difference between knowing you have a talent for leadership and knowing that this particular month is when opportunities to lead are most likely to surface.
For background on what each planet represents, see Planets in Astrology.

When a current planet forms a geometric angle to one of these points, that’s an active transit. Inner vs. outer planet transits
Inner planet transits — the Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars — move quickly. The Moon changes signs every 2.5 days; Mars takes about two years to orbit the zodiac. These transits create short-lived fluctuations in mood, communication, and energy. They're the daily weather of astrology.
Outer planet transits — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto — move slowly and carry far more transformative weight. Saturn takes 29 years to complete one orbit; Pluto takes 248. When an outer planet aspects a key point in your chart, the effects can unfold over months or even years.
Saturn transits demand accountability and restructuring. Uranus transits bring sudden change and liberation. Neptune dissolves boundaries — for better or worse. Pluto transits are the most intense: deep, irreversible transformation.
Transits in relationship astrology
When transiting Venus conjuncts your partner's natal Mars, there's a natural surge of attraction and desire between you. When transiting Saturn opposes your natal Venus, you may feel the weight of commitment questions or distance in the relationship — not because anything is "wrong," but because Saturn is asking the relationship to mature.
StellarTies takes this further by tracking transits to the composite chart — the chart of the relationship itself. This reveals themes that affect the partnership as a whole, independent of which partner "feels it more." It's the difference between tracking weather at two separate houses versus tracking weather at the house you share.
Golden windows and connection bids
Golden windows are periods when multiple harmonious transits cluster together — trines and sextiles to your composite chart stacking up in the same week or two. These are the stretches when communication flows more easily, warmth comes more naturally, and big conversations or plans are more likely to land well. StellarTies detects these clusters automatically and flags them on your forecast timeline.
Connection bids are the practical counterpart. For each major transit, StellarTies generates a specific, actionable suggestion — a "bid" — that helps you lean into the energy rather than being swept along by it. A Venus-Jupiter trine to your composite might produce: "Plan a date that's more adventurous than usual — try something neither of you has done before." A Saturn square to composite Moon might suggest: "Have the conversation you've been postponing. The tension you feel is Saturn asking for honesty."
The goal is to turn abstract planetary geometry into something you can actually do.
How StellarTies uses transits
The system identifies which transits are active, scores their intensity based on the planet involved, the type of aspect, and the orb (how exact the angle is), and then synthesizes the results into a narrative forecast — written by AI but grounded entirely in the astronomical data.
Outer planet transits to composite angles get the highest weight. A Pluto conjunction to composite Venus will dominate a month's forecast; a Mercury sextile to composite Mars will be mentioned briefly as favorable communication energy.
The result is a monthly relationship forecast that isn't generic — it's specific to your two charts, updated as the planets move. Pair it with golden windows and connection bids, and you have a practical toolkit for navigating your relationship's evolving dynamics. See your forecast on the dashboard.
